Classical Flute (aka orchestral flute or traditional flute) Lisa was trained in and teaches with a traditional approach to instruction. She teaches beginners through collegiate level flutists. This includes orchestra, band and scholarship audition material, chair placement and playing tests, solos, etudes, scales (and other technical exercises), tone, vibrato, articulation, intonation, musical expression, ornamentation, hand position, posture and breathing. |

Piccolo and Alto Flute The piccolo is a micro flute that plays in the stratosphere. People think it is cute because it is so small, but it can actually do serious damage to your hearing. Wear earplugs! The alto flute is a fourth lower than the standard flute and gets a beautiful sound. You cannot hurt your ears with this gentle giant. |

Jazz Improv Reading chord changes with jazz stylings also helps develop skills in improvisation so the flutist can pick up and play off the cuff in any style alone or with a group. Lisa started playing jazz and improvising in 2014. She immediately found that it helped with improvising even in formal/traditional settings like church music. She started passing along tips and tricks to students and has subsequently had a number of students excel in the Art of Improvisation. |

Traverso or “Old Flute” This instrument is the Baroque Era ancestor to the modern flute. It is a similar fingering system to the recorder, but is held transverse to the floor like its modern grand baby that we play today. If you want an authentic performance of music by J.S. Bach, Händel or Vivaldi it must be played on the one-keyed Traverso. |

Extended Techniques You can make a lot of weird noises with the flute! Some of these “extended techniques” include multiphonics, whistle tones, flutter tonguing, throat tuning, pitch bending, microtones, timbral trilling and harmonics. The most impressive and elusive technique for flutists is Circular Breathing. Lisa is well versed in using and teaching all these skills. |

Glissando Flute® This requires the patented Glissando Headjoint® so the flute can slide around like a trombone. It is an all acoustic flute for the future! |

Electronic Effects and Loop Machine Using a microphone, amplifier and effects pedal the traditional flute transforms to Electric Flute. This can be done with any wind instrument. The world of effects is vast and exciting!! The Loop Machine is another electronic device that requires a mic and amp set up. It allows one flutist to sound like an entire band! Using the loop machine you can create an entire back track and perform whatever you want. You can play jazz, pop, classically inspired or avant-garde music. You can use a loop machine as a solo act or collaborate with other musicians. Lisa uses a Boss VE20 loop machine and can teach students how to use it! |
