"We can open a path right now.
If we fall, then we can get back up just like the toddler.
A heart-path opens by walking, just walking. In time wobbly legs come into their own."

Life is unpredictable. All of us will have periods of time where we struggle with what is happening within and around us. We may encounter loss of a job, a relationship or a dream. We may suffer an illness, depression or death of someone/something very dear to us.

Sometimes the accompanying suffering tears at the very fabric of our understanding of ourselves and how we fit in the world. Life may no longer make sense. Life may not be the way you thought it would be or should be. Unbidden desires, anxieties or depression may come in to interfere with your ability to live the life you want. Others in your life may behave in ways that disrupt your peace of mind and ability to live a meaningful life. Issues you thought you had dealt with long ago may resurface in the present.

Times such as these try even the most steadfast and sturdy soul. Many, however, are fundamentally unprepared for times such as these. You may have never had to ask for help in the past and feel uneasy with the idea of bringing someone else into your innermost thoughts and feelings. Finding support to navigate trying times, though, is critical. It is our ability to move through these times and make personal meaning of our experience that dictates whether we are pulled under by the suffering or are able to grow and thrive.

I can help. I prioritize creating a non-judgmental, accepting and empathetic space where you can begin to open up emotions and meaning underlying current suffering. This is an important first step. A safe space to ponder begins to bring awareness to often murky external and internal situations and starts the process of being able to more clearly see, identify, name and understand the problem.

Using dreams and other techniques, such as parts work, we may explore more deeply into less conscious determiners of automatic feelings, thoughts and behaviors. This can open up understandings and insights changing our entire perception of the problem. Often at this point clients begin to have an entirely new relationship with their former “problem.” Strategies are now available to change the way we interact and interface with difficult emotions and behaviors change as well.

Though the road through suffering is very individual, there are common twists and turns easily identifiable by a trained guide. I will provide the right environment to allow your process to unfold, often into a life of richness you may have thought long gone. Our wounds, in fact, if attended to with care and soul can lead us into a deeper and more meaningful experience of life. As Leonard Cohen says in his haunting song Anthem, “the cracks are where the light gets in.”
